Physical Education
Intent
At St Wilfrid’s, our aim is to deliver high-quality, enjoyable physical education and sport to all children. We want to nurture a desire to improve and challenge ourselves. Through PE we want to teach children life skills that will have a lifelong positive impact on their future and enable our children to healthy, physically confident adults. Our children will have opportunities to compete in sport and other activities that build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect. P.E teaches the importance of healthy life styles, a balanced diet, positive growth mind-set and the resilience to persevere which will benefit our pupils greatly. We are passionate about the need to teach children how to cooperate and collaborate with others, as part of a team, understanding fairness and equity of play to embed life-long values.
Implementation
All pupils participate in weekly high-quality PE and sporting activities. Our PE curriculum offers a wide range of sports and activities to appeal to all children regardless of their sporting ability. Opportunities are provided for all children to engage in extra-curricular activities during and after school. Children regularly participate in sports at lunchtime, led by trained sports coaches and complete a daily mile.
At St Wilfrid’s we ensure that the children receive a broad and balanced physical education program, delivered by both PE specialists (City in the Community and Anna's Dance), and class teachers. ‘The power of PE’ scheme is used to supplement physical education delivery in school, ensuring that all areas of the national curriculum are covered thoroughly and systematically.
