Phonics
Implementation
Here at St Wilfrid’s Primary we use a phonics programme called Read, Write, Inc (RWI). Read Write Inc. Phonics is a phonics programme used from early years until the child no longer needs phonic support. It is in line with the National Curriculum requirements for teaching phonics.
In Nursery, before the children start the RWI programme they learn to be able to listen carefully, hear a range of sounds, and when they are able to tune in, they begin learning letter sounds.
Phonics takes place every morning between 9.05-9.35. All of the children who need to learn phonics go to a number of different phonics groups across school.
Follow the link below which will tell you much more information about read, write, inc. It also has links to some videos and other useful information.

Here is a link of how to say each of the sounds as a pure sound. A pure sound is when we don’t add an ‘er’ on the end. Have a look at the video and you will hear all the phonemes.
There are lots of websites that have free phonics games and activities. A couple of our favourites are here for you to enjoy.
