British Values/Prevent
At St Wilfrid’s CE Primary School we seek to embed British Values, alongside our Christian Values, continually throughout the academic year. These are explicitly reinforced during our worship sessions, PSHE teaching and P4C, and enhanced throughout other areas of the curriculum, including trips and visits.
Our British Values Statement:
We strive to promote democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance, and promote 'Britishness'.
- We provide opportunities for children to debate and discuss, particularly during P4C sessions
- We encourage children to vote and to provide their 'pupil voice', including through questionnaires
- We strive for opportunites for children to take on extra responsibilities, including prefect and monitor roles, and school council representatives
- Children are taught the difference between right and wrong, and encouraged how to make the right choices
- Children are taught that the law is there to protect them, and that law-breaking has consequences
- Children are expected to follow the school rules and to reflect on their choices
- Police officers attend school to make children aware of the rule of law/ Year 6 pupils attend crucial crew
- Children are given the opportunity to express their voice, including opinions and preferences
- We learn about war and the British Empire
- Children are encouraged to try new things, work outside their 'comfort zone' and take risks
- We encourage children to be polite and helpful to others, and lead by example
- We respect others and are taught about - and are respectful of - differences
- We promote equality and fairness
- We promote a learning environment that provides everyone the opportunity to learn
- Bullying is not tolerated, and all concerns regarding behaviour are addressed swiftly
- Uniqueness and individual achievements are celebrated
- We teach children about a variety of faiths and cultures, and make links and comparisons between other faiths and Christianity
- Children visit places of worship both in person, and virtually
- We commemorate key historical dates, celebrate British festivals and show support for our country during key sporting fixtures
