Manchester Cathedral

Class: Year 5 Year: 2023 - 2024

 

On Tuesday 4th June, year 5 took the tram into Manchester to visit Manchester Cathedral. As we arrived, we were lucky to hear the beautiful organ being played, which was a real treat! We then split into two groups and were given a guided tour by two lovely volunteers, Catherine and Barbara. The children were told all about the history of the building, from its early days as a parish church to the cathedral it is today. We enjoyed; the gargoyles on the outside of the building, counting the angels around the inside of the building and seeing which instruments they were playing, viewing the vast vaulted ceilings, statues and the many exquisite stained glass windows (the Fire Window being one of the favourites). The children's behaviour was impectable and incredibly repsectful during the trip and especially when walking around the cathedral and the staff were very complimentary too! We hope that you take them up on their offer of the activities that they have on during the summer holidays. Here are some pictures of our trip:
